Principles of Engineering
This course is the second step you will take on the four year journey called Project Lead the Way. Principles of Engineering (POE) is usually taken in your second year, and is one of the most loved classes, because it is not unlike a college level physics course. It is also one of the three required "Foundation" courses to graduate with a PLTW diploma. It is the other pre-requisite to every other PLTW course offered at Firestone.
Highlights of this course include:
Understanding of Trusses Calculating Forces and Moments Use of West Point Bridge design Software (see image left top) Knowledge of Simple Machines and Mechanical Advantage Practice solving Engineering problems with real world application Learning about the different branches of Engineering Experience working as team |
"Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation."
